Rating the popularity of this...

Part #I: Lest you had any doubts of the growth of 's popularity:

The Pennsylvania 500 was the highest-rated and most watched NASCAR Cup Series event in TNT's 21-year history of airing NASCAR on TNT and TBS.  It was also the second highest rated NASCAR Cup Series event ever on cable television.  The New England 300 also broke records, earning it the #2 spot on TNT’s highest rated and most watched races. For boring ratings details read this...

Part #II: NASCAR to seek top dollar for rights:

In the national ratings, it's the No. 2 sports property, trailing only the National Football League.

Insiders predict that Nextel Cup and Busch Series rights will sell for about $500 million a year in the next contract, up from $400 million a year in the current deals with Fox and NBC/TNT.

Part #VIII: Lest you had any doubts about Dale Jr.'s ratings during what won't be considered his best season:

Over 2.5 million votes have been cast in the Chex® NASCAR Most Popular Driver Award and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. continues to lead in the voting. Behind him in the current balloting are second-place Jeff Gordon, followed by Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Rusty Wallace, Tony Stewart, Michael Waltrip, Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson.

Voting continues  through 11:59AM CST, Monday, Nov. 21 at www.mostpopulardriver.com. Fans can vote once a day.

Bill Elliott tops all drivers with 16 most popular wins.  He is followed by Richard Petty, who has won nine times. Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s win last year made him the fifth driver in NASCAR history to win the award in consecutive seasons, while his win in 2003 made him and his father, the late Dale Earnhardt, the only father-son combination to have won. Other past winners have included such notables as Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip.

Speaking of the most popular driver, Dale Jr.'s quickly becoming a popular owner.  His Chance 2 Motorports/DEI driver of the #8 car, Martin Truex, Jr., is the current Busch Series points leader and his JR Motorsports #32 driver, Mark McFarland, had his first victory in the Hooters Pro Cup at the Merchant’s Tire & Auto Center 250 last week.  The win follows five consecutive top-5 finishes.

I don't think Dale Jr.'s having as bad a year as everyone thinks.

Part #XXIX: What will the #29 GM Goodwrench look like in 2006? Whichever paint scheme is most popular among the fans:

For the first time in team history, fans will be able to vote for Harvick's regular GM Goodwrench sponsored standard paint scheme with the squad offering its fans a choice of two designs.

Fans will be able to log onto Goodwrench.com until the end of August, to vote between two paint schemes, the current “Flame” design and the “20th Anniversary” design run in this year's Daytona 500.

The flames get my vote.

Part EA: It's In The Game:

EA SPORTS presents five NASCAR cameos -- ones that appear at the beginning of the EA Sports NASCAR Chase for the Cup game delivering the classic line "It's In The Game!". Fans vote their favorite: Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kyle Petty, Kevin Harvick, Daytona Girls or Elliott Sadler.

Part LI: Vote for the Lowe's Motor Speedway  2005 Summer Shootout Series MPD at Speed51.com.

A lot of folks are betting on NASCAR's continued popularity.

Children stranded by the parents of this...

More illegal immigrants endanger their children's welfare and security:

Children Stranded in Ark. Immigration Raid

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - When immigration authorities raided a poultry plant and took away more than 100 employees to face deportation, some workers were able to call home and arrange care for their children. But about 30 children, some as young as 3 months old, were left behind with no parents after the arrests, officials said.

"A lot of those families had kids in day care in different places, and they didn't know why Mommy and Daddy didn't come pick them up," Arkadelphia Mayor Charles Hollingshead said. [...]

What a shame.  No doubt many of these children are American citizens.  Let's hope they have legal relatives here who can be appointed legal guardians.  What a waste coming to America will have been if the deported parents send for their American children once they're back in Mexico.

On one hand I'm happy to FINALLY see a crack down on getting illegal aliens outta here.  On the other hand, we're stuck dealing with their scandalous poor family planning and caring for the children left behind.

On the bright side, since we are deporting illegals, we'll have fewer in jails.  Instead of building additional correctional facilities, we can fund orphanages for all of the abandoned anchor babies.

Of course, many of the lawbreakers were released to continue violating our laws pending a day in court to plead their case as to why an exception should be made for them.  We released Jose Raul Pena from custory four times, too, and he ended up getting his daughter killed.

How many more lives will our failure to secure the borders and enforce immigration laws claim?

The costs of anchoring this...

More immigration math!

As Sandi suggests, readers, especially and taxpayers fed up with increased cost and declining quality of , should remove breakables from reach before reading this...

American hospitals welcome “anchor babies.” women come to the hospital in labor and drop their little anchors, each of whom pulls its illegal alien mother, father, and siblings into permanent  residency simply by being born within our borders. Anchor babies are citizens, and instantly qualify for public aid. Between 300,000 and 350,000 anchor babies annually become citizens because of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. : “All persons born or naturalized in the , and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside.”

In 2003 in Stockton, California, 70 percent of the 2,300 babies born in San Joaquin General Hospital’s maternity ward were anchor babies, and 45 percent of Stockton children under age six are Latino (up from 30 percent in 1993). In 1994, 74,987 anchor babies in California maternity units cost $215 million and constituted 36 percent of all Medi-Cal births. Now they account for substantially more than half.

Consider the story of one illustrative family to show how reality is the sum of the seen and the unseen. The Silverios from Stockton, California, are illegal aliens seen as hard-laboring fruit-pickers with family values. Cristobal Silverio came illegally from Oxtotilan, Mexico, in 1997 and brought his wife Felipa, plus three children aged 19, 12, and 8. Felipa, mother of the bride Lourdes (age 19), gave birth to a new daughter, her anchor baby, named Flor. Flor was premature, spent three months in the neonatal incubator, and cost San Joaquin Hospital more than $300,000. Meanwhile, Lourdes plus her illegal alien husband produced their own anchor baby, Esmeralda. Grandma Felipa created a second anchor baby,Cristian.

Anchor babies are valuable. A disabled anchor baby is more valuable than a healthy one. The two Silverio anchor babies generate $1,000 per month in public welfare funding. Flor gets $600 per month for asthma. Healthy Cristian gets $400. Cristobal and Felipa last year earned $18,000 picking fruit. Flor and Cristian were paid $12,000 for being anchor babies. This illegal alien family’s annual income tops $30,000.

Cristobal Silverio, when drunk one Saturday night, crashed his van. Though he had no auto or driver’s license, and owed thousands of dollars, he easily bought another van. Stockton Police say that 44 percent of all “hit and runs” are by illegal aliens. If Cris had been seriously injured, the EMTALA-associated entitlement would provide, as it did for the four-year rehabilitation of a quadriplegic neighbor illegal alien. Rehabilitation costs customarily do not fall under the title “emergency care,” but partisans clamor to keep paraplegics in America rather than deport them to more primitive facilities south of the border.

My mechanic employs an illegal I shall call Umberto, who said when I came for my truck, “Dr. Cosman, my children lost their shadows! Help me!”

What does this mean? Umberto has five disabled children: two are autistic, two have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and one has oppositional defiant disorder, with additional obsessive compulsive disorder. All take California government-supplied medications, including . The autistic children had “shadows” or personal attendants, one per child, under the federal Individuals with Disability Education Act of 1975 (IDEA). The program provides a shadow, plus an “individual education program” that cost about $30,000 per year per child. Umberto and his wife dine out alone each week, thanks to California-provided respite-care babysitters.

Illegal aliens have translators, advocates, and middlemen supplied by immigrants’ civil rights groups or by . in 2003 had 760,000 illegal aliens, up from 2002 when there were 470,000. is a nonmeans-tested federal grant of money and food stamps. People qualify easily. Scams, frauds, and cheats are rampant. In one clinic, 300 people diagnosed as “mildly mentally retarded” all had the same translator, same psychiatrist, same symptoms, and similar stipend. Fraud is an equal-opportunity employer that flouts America’s generosity to the feeble, the crippled, and the poor. Illegal aliens have powerful legal facilitators who litigate and lobby for “Open ” and for welfare benefits for all who cross onto America’s soil. Open Borders proponents imperil America’s sovereignty by obliterating distinctions between legal and illegal aliens, and between American citizens and all other people of the hungry world.

Among the organizations directing illegal aliens into America’s medical systems are the Ford Foundation-funded Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund; the National Immigration Law Center; the American Immigration Lawyers Association; the American Bar Association’s Commission on Immigration Policy, Practice, and Pro Bono; the Immigrant Legal Resource Center; the National Council of George Soros’s Open Society Institute; the Migration Policy Institute; the National Network for Immigration and Refugee Rights; and the Southern Poverty Law Center. And there are more.

Cases of “permanent disability” have burgeoned because its definition is vague [a 12-month problem that interferes with work: see Disability Income, 42 U.S.C. 423(d)-(1)(A), and Supplemental Security Income, 42 U.S.C. 1382c(a)(3)(A)]; flexible, thanks to the case; and individualistic, thanks to government regulations. Mental, social, behavioral, and personality disorders are included. More than 500,000 “mentally disabled” children on psychotropic drugs for ADHD and ODD have incentives to bad, bizarre behavior. Children’s disability stipends are called “crazy money,” for crazy behavior.

Drug addiction and alcoholism are classified as diseases and disabilities. Disability CodeDA&Ahad in 1983 only 3,000 stipend recipients, but in 1994 exploded to 101,000. In 2003, between 250,000 and 400,000 got lump-sum grants of disability money via SSI. When Linda Torres was arrested in Bakersfield, California, with about $8,500 in small bills in a sack, the police originally thought it was stolen money. It was her SSI lump sum award for her disability: heroin addiction.

Immigrants on SSI, including legal aliens, refugees, and illegals with fraudulent Social Security cards, numbered a mere 127,900 aliens (3.3 percent of recipients) in 1982. By 1992 the numbers expanded to 601,430 entitled (10.9 percent of recipients). In 2003, this figure was several million (about 25 percent of recipients).

The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) proudly announced that it garnered for immigrants expensive cancer treatments, prenatal care, and critical health services by means of its litigation. Sometimes NILC worked in collaboration with lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. Though the 1996 Welfare Reform Legislation reduced all welfare payments to all recipients nationwide, NILC cleverly managed to restore to its constituency of legal and illegal immigrants: $12 billion in Supplemental Security Income, and more than $800 million in food stamps. For many illegal aliens, America is land of the victim and home of the entitled.

CAIR: "We won't dispute that terrorists founded this..."

Ok, not in so many words, but apparently they can no longer deny this...

CAIR Founded by “Islamic Terrorists”? by Daniel Pipes and Sharon Chadha

Ya think? It's a must read update on The Council on American Islamic Relation's lawsuit against Andrew Whitehead and Anti-CAIR which exposes CAIR's terrorist, anti-American agenda.

Update 7.30.05: CAIR faked a fatwa against "terrorism and extremism" to "perpetrate a deception on the American public." h/t Smash

Microsoft doesn't want you to search with this...

As if I haven't found enough reasons not to use IE, Microsoft has gone ahead and disabled the Google and other 3rd party goodies from the IE7 release forcing users to use MSN search?  Yeah, ok.

All the while, Mozilla developers are doing their best to make sure you can search any engine you want with their browser.

Apparently they haven't lost enough of their users to Firefox!  Have you made the switch to this...?

Update: Microsoft blogger Robert Scoble stopped by to let us know The Register's story is bogus. I'm not convinced, but the back and forth is rather amusing.

Meanwhile, this changes nothing. I still have no use for IE.

Mature audiences need glasses before buying this...

How did this guy pass the bar?

Class action attorney Laurence D. Paskowitz is representing Florence Cohen, 85, who apparently can't read and bought the "teach 'em how to be a pimp" game, San Andreas, for her 14-year-old grandson.

Paskowitz said this...

"They [video game manufacturers] should really make sure this doesn't happen again," he said. "The least this company can do is offer refunds."

He's right, it shouldn't happen again.  Ratings are in place for a reason. Too bad the lady couldn't see the "M" or "AO" rating.  Paskowitz should see to it that his client get some reading glasses and stop wasting other people's time and money.

Meanwhile, nobody else should be buying this game.  There's just no good reason for gamers to learn how to make successful drug deals, shoot up cops, beat up girlfriends and pimp them out.  Or am I missing something?

Secularizing the constitution like this...

Liberals take pride in their belief of separation of church and state, right?  Of course.  They go to great lengths to protect this...

They make exceptions, of course, for this...

a) if they can use a religion against a non-liberal court nomination; or

b) if the religion is secularism, in which case they find that religion and government should co-exist.

That's the outline. Moze has the details on how those who abhor religion are using it against non-secularists to violate the constitution.

Arab ideas on how to reform this...

MEMRI - Fiighting Terrorism: Recommendations by Arab Reformists

The question of how to fight Islamic terrorism preoccupies many Arab reformists who are working to denounce Islamist thought, to encourage independent and critical thinking, and to establish values of democracy and human rights in the Muslim world. For example, in February 2005, a group of reformists submitted to the U.N. a request that it establish an international court to judge Muslim clerics who incite to violence and bloodshed. The request was examined by the U.N. legal counseland distributed to the U.N. Security Council.

Following the July 7, 2005 London bombings, Arab reformists further expanded their criticism and honed their arguments, not only regarding Muslim extremists, but also regarding the European countries, particularly Britain, which allows extremist activity within its borders in the name of protecting individual rights. They also increased their criticism of the silent Muslim majority and moderate Muslim intellectuals, who capitulate to Islamist pressure and do not speak out decisively against it.

The following are some of the recommendations by reformist Arab writers:

  • Europe Must Change its Lenient Treatment of Muslim Extremists
  • Incitement on the Internet Must Be Stopped
  • Arab Intellectuals Must Stop Speaking in Two Voices
  • The Terrorists Must Be Separated from Their Sympathizers
  • Muslims Must Denounce the Terrorists; The West Must Stop Being Naive
  • Muslims Must Ban Suicide Bombings for Moral Reasons
  • The Religious Institutions Must Take Practical Measures Against the Terrorists
  • The Muslims Must Form a New Religious Culture
  • The Silent Majority Must Speak Out Against the Terrorists
  • The War on Terrorism Requires Extensive Intellectual, Political and Educational Activity

Read the details.

My favorite highlight is this...

Egyptian commentator and Al-Sharq Al-Awsat columnist Muna Al-Tahawi brought up the issue of the aspirations of some intellectuals to please their target audience: "The time has come for us to declare resolutely that the claim heard whenever Muslims stage a terror attack – 'George Bush made me do it' – is a stupid one… The time has come for us to stop rebuking others. We all know the extent to which extremism has increased in our societies, but it is easy to ignore this fact and to say 'we aren't like that' instead of dealing with the matter…

Only problem I see with their suggestions is that many of them rely on followers of Islam to solve a problem within Islam that many of its followers don't consider a problem.  Isn't that a problem?

So far it has been.  The most prominent Islamic organization here in America is a known supporter of terrorism and has only recently begun to publicly, not to say sincerely, denounce terrorists.  In fact, today, they will issue a FATWA against terrorists and extremism.  Which, of course, stands to make us an even better terrorist target.  C'est la vie.

Update 7.30.05: The American Islamic Leaders' "Fatwa" is Bogus

Home growing this...

60 Minutes Australia: Home Grown

Two things really struck us while working on this story. First, we're in the middle of the biggest population shift in more than 1000 years, as Muslim populations grow steadily in countries like Britain, France and yes, Australia. Secondly, the London bombers were home grown, seemingly ordinary Englishmen. Now, there's no doubt the vast majority of Muslims just want a peaceful life. But some don't. That's where the danger may lie. And that's why we've been into the suburbs of Paris and Amsterdam, Sydney and Melbourne listening to Muslims, seeing what they hold dear.

Two things struck me too:

Sheikh Mohammad Omran is more entitled than this...

"We choose to come to Australia as Australia welcomed us to come. You didn't choose to come to Australia anyhow. And we believe we have more rights than you because we choose Australia to be our country and you didn't. So don't come to me now because you are the majority or you are in the power now to say to me, "Well, this is only my way or the highway". I won't accept that."

and Sheikh Khalid Yasin reminds us of this...

"There's no such thing as a Muslim having a non-Muslim friend, so a non-Muslim could be your associate but they can't be a friend. They're not your friend because they don't understand your religious principles and they cannot because they don't understand your faith."

And here I thought more and more Muslims were shying away from that Qur'an teaching to fool everyone into thinking they can be peaceful friends.

Crashing the funeral for the press of this...

Who has the audacity to show up at a funeral for publicity purposes?

Catherine_baker_knoll
Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll is interviewed by a reporter at the funeral for Marine Staff Sgt. Joseph P. Goodrich in Carnegie (Photo: Annie O'Neill, Post-Gazette)

Catherine Baker Knoll, Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania

Ltgov_knoll"The first woman elected to the Office of Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Catherine Baker Knoll comes to this position prepared by a lifetime of public service."

Apparently, Knoll's idea of servicing the public includes attending 90% of military functions funerals to conduct press interviews, hand out her business card and remind familes that the Pennsylvania state government is against the war in which their loved one just died.

BTW - I'm totally slow on this story.  Been busy.  But some things just can't go unacknowledged.

Michelle Malkin covered this story extensively, but failed to ask one important question:

When is the Lt. Gov. going to update that picture on her website? I think the people have a case for blatant misrepresentation.
